Many vaccines lose potency unless kept refrigerated from factory to patient, but reliable cold storage is unavailable across much of the developing world, causing wasted doses and missed immunizations. New approaches to make vaccines stable without continuous refrigeration would solve a long-standing delivery barrier. Cold-chain-free vaccines would reach children in the hardest-to-serve places.
