Diseases and progress are hard to track where birth and death go unrecorded

IIn many low-income regions, births, deaths, and causes of death are never officially recorded, leaving governments blind to disease patterns and the impact of health programs. New ways to measure health status and vital events at the population level are needed to guide decisions. Better data lets limited health resources be aimed where they matter most.
